Cuchulainn Heart Challenge International Event

Last year, the Cuchulainn Heart Challenge came to Joeys for the first time. This challenge involved creating an enterprise for our local community. The winning team from this event was then invited to represent Ireland against schools from the UK in the International finals. This event took place on September 23rd in Hammerson Plc Headquarters in Kings Cross, London. Our students went from strength to strength on the day and were awarded the Overall Award for Best Concept at the event.

Our winning team was made up of Sean Higgins, Joe McAuley, Cian Maloney, Lee Cadwell, Matthew Boland, Peter McDermott, Evan White, Kevin Trefas Tom Gaskin and Jack McGuirk.

4 themes were given in the pre brief before the event:

Young People

Elderly

Refugees

Homeless people

Our students were then allocated the Elderly theme and were challenged to design their own community action project. The idea they designed is called ‘Generation Joeys’, a group that supports the wellbeing of the elderly in the area through activities, buddy system, book clubs and much more.

Thank you to all of those who helped us along this journey! It is much appreciated and a fantastic time was had by all!
