On Friday, December 3rd, our LCA2 class brought festive cheer to the residents of Nazareth House through the donation of Christmas planters, made in their Horticulture class. The students had the idea of upcycling into Christmas planters the white buckets from the antibacterial wipes used in our classrooms. The students did great work in the community seeking donations from local businesses for the project, and in communicating with the staff in Nazareth House, where they chose to donate the planters. All of the plants used were kindly donated by a relative of one of our students who works in the Botanic Gardens, and by the gardener in the ChildVision Garden Centre. Edges Hardware generously supplied the compost to fill the buckets. Numerous staff brought in lights, ribbons and Christmas decorations for the pots and one of our lovely SNAs, Ethna, an experienced horticulturalist herself, guided the students in planting up their buckets. The students had a terrific afternoon creating their unique planters and were delighted to be able to bring them up to Nazareth House last Friday where they were gratefully accepted by Lorraine, the activities coordinator for the home. We are so appreciative of all the partners in our community who helped us bring this project to fruition, and we hope that the planters bring a little festive cheer to the residents and staff of the nursing home after a difficult eighteen months. We certainly think they look great! Well done, boys!
