It is an extreme honour and privilege to have been given the opportunity to lead this wonderful school community. We are a Catholic Voluntary Secondary School under the trusteeship of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust (ERST) and welcome students from every background and faith community. As an ERST school we belong to a rich network of schools extending across Ireland and the world and are proud to be part of a successful Immersion Programme with Sables Nua in Kabwe, Zambia. The tradition and ethos which we share with this network serve only to enrich the experience we offer as we seek to develop young people who are willing and able to make a valuable contribution to a rapidly changing world. Our philosophy is focused on supporting and encouraging students in every aspect of their lives, nurturing them into well rounded young adults who will go forward and embrace life with confidence, enthusiasm and a sense of justice.

The original school building has existed in its prominent position along Fairview Strand since 1888. Our grounds have expanded over time, and most recently we have added a technology ‘wing’ to the school with a range of classrooms and workshops. The school is a blend of the tradition of success embedded in the culture alongside the future and potential of the next generation. It is a most exciting time here in St. Joseph’s over the next few years, and our students avail of one of the most modern curricula and facilities in the country. From 2023, we are delighted to be serving all children who come to our school, both boys and girls.

We take pride in our welcoming environment and in the sense of community engendered by a spirit of co-operation among staff, students, and parents. The ethos of an Edmund Rice school is lived out by the students as they interact with their community, whether locally, nationally or internationally. We have a close interaction with our local community. Student involvement in all areas of school life is key to our success. The professionalism and generosity of our staff ensure the highest standards of education for life.

As you browse our website or App, either as a past-pupil, a present day member of the school community, a prospective student or as a visitor, you will see a vibrant community, and evidence of excellence in education. Our students demonstrate daily in the school the best of our values and ambitions. We hope you get a sense of this as you explore.
