We are delighted to announce the appointment of Emmet O’Connor as our new Home School Community Liaison Officer (HSCLO) at St Joseph’s Secondary School.
Some of you may already know Emmet, as he previously worked as a 6th Class teacher in St Joseph’s Primary School. We are delighted to welcome him to St Joseph’s Secondary School and know that his strong connection with our local community will be a great asset in his new role.
The Home School Community Liaison role is an important support for parents and families and helps to build a strong partnership between home and school. Emmet will be available to parents who may need advice, guidance or practical support, whether that relates to their child’s education, attendance, settling into secondary school or accessing supports and services in the community.

A key part of the HSCLO role is making sure that parents feel welcome, listened to and comfortable contacting the school. Emmet will work closely with families and school staff to help address any difficulties that might be affecting a student’s experience of school. He will also support opportunities for parents to become more involved in school life through meetings, activities, courses and other initiatives.
We would also like to sincerely thank our outgoing HSCLO, Malcolm Lawlor, for the tremendous work he has done over the past three years. Malcolm has provided invaluable support to our students and families and has built many strong relationships across our school community. He now returns to the classroom, and we wish him every success.
We wish Emmet the very best as he begins his new role and look forward to introducing him to our parents and families over the coming weeks.
