The beneficiaries will study  Accounting and Finance in DCU, Education, History and Religion in DCU and  Electrical Services and Energy Management in TU Dublin

The scholarships valued at €4,000 each are funded by the Leaving Cert Classes of 1968 , many of whom met up by Zoom during Covid . Lots of reminiscences and stories were shared and in the midst of all the banter a decision was made to do something concrete for the school. The fund will assist 12 pupils all over the next 4 years .

In addition to financial bursary , mentors will be assigned to each scholarship winner.

McKeon and Company , Building Contractors, whose late  MD Tomas McKeon was a member of the 1968 Class , will also provide bursaries for apprentices.

Mr Stack welcomed the initiative from the 1968 Year, and was confident that the scheme would prove to a great help to the beneficiaries.

Presenting the scholarships on behalf of his 1968 Year Mr Jim Dowling wished all the scholarship recipients well and passed some valuable advice he received from the late Jim Caffrey, a teacher in St Josephs, about how to approach 3rd level study , which was to always read the notes from any given lecture within 24 hours. Jim recalled the great impact free secondary education and  3rd level scholarships had on himself and his generation.

Mr Rafferty thanked the organisers of the scholarship scheme and also paid tribute to the PPU members involved in a number of initiatives eg the PTech IT teaching scheme now working successfully in the school,  the ongoing lobbying for funding equity for DEIS schools, capital projects in the school, and fund raising.
