On Monday the 2nd of December three of Joey’s finest fought in an inter-schools boxing showcase in the National Boxing Stadium. Schools across Dublin were represented and Leon Bannerman, Sean Lynam and Craig O’Neill boxed superbly on behalf of Joey’s.
The first fight on the card was our very own Leon Bannerman, who showed great technique and a superb ability to avoid his opponents jab. By round two Leon had his opponent well and truly rattled by Leon.
Next up for Joey’s was Sean Lynam who, with previous boxing experience, excelled. Despite giving away a significant height advantage to his opponent, Sean really showed his class by taking the fight to his opponent and him pinned against the ropes for most of the fight.
Last up for Joey’s was Craig O’Neill who produce a classy display of power and skill with some strong uppercuts and hooks. By round two Craig was well on top and the showed a real talent for a sport he only recently took up.
All contest were scored draws but there is no doubt Joey’s won 3-0! A big thanks to Paul Quinn of Dublin City Council who trained the three lads and many more of Joey’s TY students over year.
